They say that great things come in three’s…three-leaf clovers, the Holy trinity, 3D, and yes, The Three Amigos. (The last example being a great representation of my lifestyle… IYKYK) I don’t know who “they” are, but I’ll gladly stake hope in their theory!

These last few months, I’ve been trying to get a little more momentum going with my life’s plan. To update you, I had a great conversation with my cardiologist and nephrologist (as well as some discussion with the head of the Baylor Ft. Worth Transplant team), and we decided to drop the appeal to Baylor Ft. Worth. They all feel that the heart team at Ft. Worth would not be strong enough to handle my case. They feel that there are other hospitals more fit to take care of me should something happen. So, we have moved forward with applying at both Medical City Dallas and Baylor Dallas (who has a different program than Baylor Ft. Worth). I’m hoping that this power of three’s will pull through for me on this one! After all, I was denied three times before I was accepted for my last transplant. As of right now, I’m in a waiting game to get scheduled for my workup.

On another, totally separate note, I’ve been feeling very nostalgic lately as I just turned the big 5-0! When I was a kid, this age seemed soooooo far away! Even in high school, the thought of being this age was so distant, I had no idea what to imagine! I’ve thought a lot about the friends and experiences I’ve collected over the years, and I truly believe I’ve been very blessed. I’ve seen and done things that most people only dream about – I’ve lived abroad, I’ve traveled all over the world, I’ve had a front seat to some incredible events, and I’ve been surrounded by amazing people the entire time! I don’t say this as if my life is over…hell no! I wouldn’t be here fighting the fight if I thought otherwise! There’s still so much to do! 😀 I am just thankful that to this day, I still feel as young and curious as I was then, and here’s hoping for another…not 50, but at least another 20 or 30 years more! hahaha…

Things I’m thankful for today:

1. My skin… it may sound weird, but I’m thankful I’ve listened to all those Cosmo and Glamour mags that warned me to stay out of the sun. I may be 50, but my skin (and the lack of sun damage) allows me to look a little bit younger!

2. Podcasts. Yes, I’m a bit late to the game, but this past year, I’ve discovered some really interesting podcasts that I listen to every night. Not only entertaining, but educational too. Never stop learning!

3. I didn’t get swept away in a tornado last weekend! I realize that tornadoes are a hazard of living in Texas, but it’s never fun to experience, and I hate wondering every time whether we’ll have a house standing after it passes!

    ‘Berta,

I know we’ve not kept in constant contact through the years but I want you to know that I often pray for you. Now, I’m not the best at daily prayer, and sometimes my ADD (un-medicated) self will begin the Hail Mary and before I’ve ended that prayer a squirrel runs by (in my brain naturally)resulting in a loop around said squirrel and a start over. At that point the Our Father is obligatory as penance for that pesky squirrel. Anyhoo, I do pray, and 🙏 , and pray some more for your health and guidance for your wonderful medical team ‘Berta. I’ve had some acute medical issues pop up since mid January so to a VERY small degree I can empathize. Clearly God believes I need a lesson in humility and probably other things such as patience. Please know I have complete faith God has a plan for us all. We may question his plan on occasion and make it known our thoughts on HIS plan from time to time and I believe that it’s okay with him that we do this. While I’m writing I often think in appreciation that you trusted me with your diabetes diagnosis as your cube-mate. Just in case it was necessary to “Come ‘a runnin’ ” with an emergency snack from your desk drawer to raise your glucose level. Keep the faith, sister, more good blessings are to come. My Best, Suzanne Allen

    Best Regards,

    Suzanne Allen
